Though his influence proved less durable than his record sales, Frankie Laine was one of the most popular vocalists of the 1950s, swinging jazz standards as well as half a dozen Western movie themes of the time with his manly baritone. Laine's somewhat artificial Western nature proved more successful in far-off England, where he set two chart records in 1953: his version of "I Believe" stayed at number one in the U.K. for an incredible 18 weeks, and his two subsequent chart-toppers that year ("Hey Joe," "Answer Me") set a record by putting Laine at number one for 27 weeks during the year.

The project had its inception from the great esteem that both Andre Andersen – keyboard maestro and mainman of ROYAL HUNT – and Paul Laine – formerly singer of DANGER DANGER – had one for each other. After the first recording sessions Andre felt the desire to expand the project to another powerful and strong vocalist he had the chance to admire for some time, that is to say PINK CREAM 69 shouter David Readman.

"Stick It In Your Ear" is the solo and recording debut of Paul Laine (ex: Danger Danger), originally released in 1990, one of the best, and most overlooked, albums of the early '90s melodic rock genre. "Stick It In Your Ear" is a perfect example of the melodic rock sound at the end of the '80s. You can hear the influence of classic AOR bands like Journey and Loverboy as well as the hair metal sound of Poison and Winger, and considered by both press and fans of the genre a classic AOR album and one of the greatest ever. This reissue (+ 4 bonus tracks), and the remastering sounds excellent, it's certainly a lot louder and brighter than the original release.

With a multi-octave voice similar to Betty Carter's, incredible scatting ability, and ease of transition from a throaty whisper to high-pitched trills, Cleo Laine was born in 1927 in the Southall section of London, the daughter of a Jamaican father and English mother. Her parents sent her to vocal and dance lessons as a teenager, but she was 25 when she first sang professionally, after a successful audition with the big band led by Johnny Dankworth. Both Laine and the band recorded for Esquire, MGM and Pye during the late '50s, and by 1958, she was married to Dankworth. With Dankworth by her side, Laine began her solo career in earnest with a 1964 album of Shakespeare lyrics set to Dankworth's arrangements, Shakespeare: And All That Jazz.
