"Beyond The Sea" is the band's fifth album and the second featuring almost a new line-up except founder and main composer Enrik Garcia. With that involuntary change, a relatively young band went through its second birth. Not being quite unparalleled on today's metal stage, these Spaniards still make good Power Metal albums measurably spiced with some symphonic elements. Certainly they couldn't escape the common lot of imitating some pathfinders of the genre, yet they managed to develop their own sound distinguishing them from the rest.

Consummate entertainer Bobby Darin (1936-1973) is making a movie about his life. He's volatile, driven by the love of performing, ambition, perfectionism, and belief that he's living on borrowed time. He begins in the Bronx: a fatherless lad learning music and dance from his mom. His career starts slowly, then "Splish Splash" puts him at the top of the charts and on "Bandstand." He wants to be an entertainer, not a pop star, so he aims for the Copacabana; then it's on to the movies, where he meets and marries Sandra Dee. After, it's balancing career, health, marriage and family life, balances he doesn

Psychedelic Folk, Folk Rock | Gear Fab Records #GF-212

Gear Fab's excavation of the recorded history of Greenwich Village folkie Chris Wilson continued apace with this follow-up to The Grey Wizard Am I (itself reissued three years earlier by the archival label). You needn't be a total sci-fi/fantasy dork to enjoy that 1972-vintage album, though it certainly doesn't hurt. Those with less esoteric – okay, less geeky – tastes, on the other hand, probably felt the Tolkien-themed lyricism was more than a little bit twee and precious. Even more well-adjusted, down-to-earth listeners, however, might find themselves charmed by parts of The Tin Angel. Firstly, the music itself is more diverse and, consequently, has a far broader appeal…

Initially Andreas Bay Estrup dreamt of a musical career as a jazz drummer. He studied in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and the US and never really wished to do anything else but drumming. But things didn’t go as planned. Estrup started writing songs and began to think of a band he could play these songs with. He formed a band of old and new friends, all of them experienced musicians from acts like Saybia, Slaraffenland, Folkeklubben and Efterklang. They rehearsed in the basement of Rasmus Jusjong’s parents. Rasmus was the drummer of this new band called Dangers of the Sea, as Andreas Bay Estrup had become its lead singer.

Set to a varied but subdued stereo score by Jan Hammer, ranging from electronic music to acoustic guitar, the program is a seamless blending of two dozen or so computer animated works. Excerpts from Lawnmower Man pop up, but they are abstract enough to fit well with the other pieces. Some sequences have a narrative, such as an insect chase that turns out to be occurring on a small bio-dome in outer space. Others are just exercises in imagination expansion, bringing a topography to Pablo Picasso’s self-portrait or exploring the intricacies of gear movements.
