One of the brightest stars in the 20th-century operatic firmament, the Pennsylvania-born soprano Anna Moffo (1932–2006) enjoyed a meteoric rise in the 1950s and 1960s that saw her conquer all the major opera houses in Europe and America. After making her Metropolitan Opera début in 1959 as Violetta in La traviata, she went on to appear with the company in 200 performances of 21 roles over a total of 18 seasons, before finally singing her last complete performance – once again as Verdi’s Violetta – and retiring from the stage in 1976. Specially released to mark the 10th anniversary of Anna Moffo’s death, Sony Classical releases for the first time, newly mastered from the original analogue tapes using 24bit/96kHz technology.

A critically acclaimed film version of the sweet-and-spicy operetta classic.
Opera legends Anna Moffo and René Kollo star in this delightful romantic comedy about a Budapest cabaret singer in love with a young aristocrat. Audiences everywhere have been captivated by Kálmán's gloriously tuneful hit numbers, an irresistible mix of spicy Hungarian rhythms and the graceful strains of the Viennese waltz. This wildly popular 1915 operetta even scored a smash on Broadway as The Riviera Girl.

…Tullio Serafin and the Rome Opera Orchestra are no strangers to this repertory, and offer lush and sympathetic accompaniments throughout. The recorded sound here is remarkable – lets hope RCA/Sony continues to pump these discs out! The only caveat is the rather skimpy 44-minute playing time the disc clocks in at – but truly, what would you pair it with? Very highly recommended!

"Shirley Verrett makes a deeply impressive Orfeo, firm and pure in sound, classically restrained in expression; and her "Che farO", at a moderate, beautifully judged speed, is very finely sung, poised and quietly moving. The set is conducted by Renato Fasano, whose pacing of the score shows a very sure touch. The dance music has a grace and lightness, and a stylistic command, that one might not have expected from an orchestra which in those days seemed to be fed chiefly on a diet of Vivaldi."(Gramophone)

A lot has been said about Anna Moffo's early vocal decline and mismanaged carreer but let's not forget what a lovely singer she was in her prime. This recital from the early 1970's let us hear "late Moffo" though she was not yet 40. There is a slight hoarseness and unsteadiness in the voice that was not present in earlier recordings but it is still by any means a beautiful instrument used with skill. This recital also reminds us what a verstatile artist she was - she sings arias from the italian bel canto and verismo repertoire, french lyric and also german operettas and she passes from one to the other with considerable naturalness, ease and charm..

Anna Moffo was one of the leading sopranos at the Metropolitan Opera in New York throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. To many opera-lovers in the USA, she was quite simply the most beautiful diva of her era. She was certainly one of the most talented, possessing an appealing stage presence, a lyric soprano voice of full, ratdiant tone and an impeccable coloratura technique, which she used with excellent musical taste.

A decade after Chris Daughtry came in fourth on the fifth season of American Idol, the singer's post-Idol band DAUGHTRY has amassed enough hits to create a hits collection, hence the 2016 release of It's Not Over: The Hits So Far. This 13-track collection doesn't contain every single DAUGHTRY track issued to radio – the most conspicuous absences are "Outta My Head," "Start of Something Good," and "Battleships," all entries on the U.S. Adult Top 40 – but it has all the big active rock hits, ranging from the Top 10s "It's Not Over" and "Home" to "Over You," "What About Now," "No Surprise," and the singalong "Long Live Rock & Roll."
