Peter Parker is an unhappy man: after two years of fighting crime as Spider-Man, his life has begun to fall apart. The girl he loves is engaged to someone else, his grades are slipping, he cannot keep any of his jobs, and on top of it, the newspaper Daily Bugle is attacking him viciously, claiming that Spider-Man is a criminal. He reaches the breaking point and gives up the crime fighter's life, once and for all. But after a failed fusion experiment, eccentric and obsessive scientist Dr. Otto Octavius is transformed into super villain Doctor Octopus, Doc Ock for short, having four long tentacles as extra hands. Peter guesses it might just be time for Spider-Man to return, but would he act upon it?

Spider-Man, also known as Spider-Man: The Animated Series, is an award-winning American animated series starring the Marvel Comics superhero, Spider-Man. The show ran on Fox Kids from November 19, 1994, to January 31, 1998. The producer/story editor was John Semper, Jr. and production company was Marvel Productions.
The series tells the story of a 19-year-old Peter Parker in his first year at Empire State University, and his alter-ego Spider-Man. As the story begins, Peter has already gained his powers, is single and a part-time photographer for the Daily Bugle. The show features most of Spider-Man's classic villains, including the Kingpin, the Green Goblin, the Lizard, the Scorpion, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, the Rhino, the Shocker, The Vulture, and the Chameleon, as well as more recent villains such as Venom, Carnage, and the Hobgoblin. Over the course of the series the single Peter Parker contends with the romantic interests of Mary Jane Watson, Black Cat and her alter ego, Felicia Hardy.

+ Amazing Spider-Man Issues #1-620 Complete

I must say issues #621 and #622 could not have been more different as day and night (noticed the covers?). As I mentioned previously, Dan Slott is the weakest of those who have handled the Gauntlet storyline, and issue #621 certainly confirms it. He's not bad; he's just middle-of-the-road neutral, as if he is scared of treading on sensitive issues, like the sexual chemistry between Spidey and the Black Cat, for one. Only Michael Lark's great artwork rescues #621 from the bland box--he has this ability to capture Spider-Man in motion at odd moments--unfortunately, Slott does not give that much action to work with. Issue #622, on the other hand, with Fred Van Lente and artist Joe Quinnones soars. Marvel editors must have heard all the complaints about poor Slott. Where he (Slott) was dull and boring, Van Lente is funny and inspired. And the bonus story by Greg Wiseman and artist Luke Ross more than hold its own with the main feature. What else can I say? Yes, the Amazing Spider-man is back on track. Oh, and these are high quality Minutemen scans.

+ Amazing Spider-Man Issues #1-617 Complete

Among those writers who have had their go with the ongoing Amazing Spider-Man storyline (Joe Kelly, Mark Waid and Fred Van Lente), Dan Slott's work with this issue #618 is the weakest. The previous three before him have revived and re-invigorated the status quo of Marvel's "flagship" series, including Spidey's Rogue's Gallery to place the title among Marvel's very best, and such was the quality of their work that Slott's turn seems average in comparison. I can say issue #618 featuring the villain Mysterio is still okay, though, carried as it is by the momentum generated by the previous creative teams, and mostly because of the art of Marcos Martin. A Minutemen scan.
