Frederik is from Århus, a town in the provinces, but has to work with a crew from "the big city", Copenhagen. His attempts as a director are often foiled by the "country boy" in him. An essential element in the film is the rather forbidding tunnel system under the municipal hospital where Frederik lived as a child. Another element is Århus' nightlife and Frederik has problems keeping his crew in check as they make their nightly rounds of the bars and taverns. This is a film about a film and alternates between various levels. Two psychological planes are contained in Frederik's own film, the underground tunnels of his childhood and his dreams of them as an adult. On a third, essential, plane, are the technical and psychological problems that arise during the making of the film, among them, the clashing of big city and provincial values. Dreams are the threads running through Frederik's film, this opens the possibility of reality becoming dreamlike and establishing yet another plane.
Although the Misunderstood were among the best obscure psychedelic bands – indeed, among the best obscure '60s rock bands of any kind – they barely got to record anything before tragic circumstances broke them up. The discovery of this bunch of previously unknown mid-'60s acetates, then, was big news to psychedelic rock aficionados, though most of this actually comes from their garage R&B days rather than the psychedelic peak they attained with their late-1966 lineup. The first nine of these 14 tracks come from sessions spanning mid-1965 to early 1966, and show them as a ferocious, above-average moody raw R&B-based group, somewhat in the mold of a more guitar-oriented Animals.
