The goal of this tutorial is to create a simple yet elegant Chess set in a clean and efficient way. Throughout the series you will learn to use many different modeling methods and techniques, and also see which ones would be the quickest for different modeling situations, so that you will be able to create the scene in as little time as possible.

Subdivision modeling is a skill like any other…it is relatively easy to grasp the basics, but it can be extremely difficult to get a handle on the the more advanced techniques. In this two hour long, intermediate/ advanced level modeling tutorial, Ben Tate will demonstrate his process of creating a detailed high-poly fire hydrant using subdivision modeling.

In this series of tutorials we'll learn how to model a realistic female game character. We'll start out by preparing our high poly model in ZBrush in order to import it into 3ds Max. Then we'll begin retopologizing the head and face. Here we'll discuss the importance of edge loops in the face to allow for proper deformation in facial animations. After that, we'll move into modeling the clothing of our character and discuss how to speed up our production time using custom menus. Then we'll finish up the training by learning how to properly clean up our model to get ready for the next steps in production. So by the end of this tutorial, you will not only have a fantastic female hero, but you'll have all the knowledge you need to create any game character for your next game project.

In this course we will use 3ds Max to create a game-type, low-resolution character from a highly detailed model.
Creating appealing characters is a lot of fun when using powerful sculpting applications like Zbrush or Mudbox in conjunction with 3ds Max. We are able to create models with a very high level of detail in our sculpting applications. But getting those characters into a lower resolution state suitable for rigging and animation can be a little more challenging. In this course, we will go through the process of using 3ds Max and Zbrush to convert a high resolution, sculpted and painted character into a low resolution game-type mesh that can be rigged and animated. We will start by using Decimation Master to reduce the resolution of our model drastically while retaining much of the visual detail. Once we are in 3ds Max, we will build low resolution geometry around these detailed meshes so we can capture the important shapes of the character. We will create uv layouts for the low resolution pieces and finally extract the color and sculpted detail from our high res pieces onto the new mesh. In the end we will have taken a model of 20 million polygons down to approximately 8000 triangles. Once you are done, you will be able to use the workflow to transfer and convert your own high resolution characters into a more useable state.

Car Rendering Techniques : In this new video tutorial for 3D Studio Max 2011, we'll take a look at car rendering techniques. This tutorial series will be split in various parts. In part one, we'll pick a car model, and we'll create a basic studio lighting setup and a basic environment, to start shading it. We'll prepare a basic car paint shader, and then we'll move to rims shader using Arch & Design template and changing its parameters and properties, then we'll move to brake discs and a basic tire shader. Studio lighting setup will be prepared using three MR Area spot with different colors and intensity value.
