The Hollies – Another Night (1975) Polydor/2442-128 – 1st UK Pressing - LP/FLAC In 24bit/96kHz

The Hollies – Another Night
Vinyl | LP Cover (1:1) | FLAC + cue | 24bit/96kHz & 16bit/44kHz | 800mb & 200mb
Label: Polydor/2442-128 | Released: 1975 | Genre: Classic-Rock

Another Night was a wholly unexpected album at the time of its release in February of 1975.
The Hollies’ 15th official album, it also marked the return of Allan Clarke to the lineup for the first time since Distant Light in 1971 — and it was, apart from one number, comprised entirely of group originals, a feat of songwriting acumen that the Hollies had not achieved since 1969’s Hollies Sing Hollies (which was sort of a “ringer” in that regard); and just as much to the point, all of the songs and recordings were pretty much first-rate, ranging widely from lyrical pop/rock to harder, edgier, album-oriented sides, with a couple of classic performances among them.

Also known as the New York Jazz Trio, this combo is a studio-only group who specialize in recording classic standards in a straightforward, post-bop style. The New York Trio features three gifted musicians who are firmly established on the East Coast jazz scene. Pianist Bill Charlap is a member of the Phil Woods Quintet, has accompanied the likes of Tony Bennett, Benny Carter, and Gerry Mulligan, and has recorded a handful of well-received albums for Blue Note as a bandleader. Bassist Jay Leonhart has recorded as a headliner since 1983, while also making a name for himself as a vocalist and songwriter as well as backing up Marian McPartland, Louie Bellson, Lee Konitz, and many others. And drummer Bill Stewart had handled demanding gigs with a variety of musicians, including jazz guitarist John Scofield, funky sax man Maceo Parker and R&B legend James Brown. They make this record for the Japanese market.

Label: Fonomusic/89.2100/2 | Released: 1975 | This Issue: 1984 | Genre: Progressive-Rock

Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music
Triana were at the forefront of the nascent Rock Andaluz of the mid-1970s with their particular blend of flamenco and progressive rock, characterised by multi-layered analogue keyboards, elaborate flamenco guitar and intense, at times tortured, vocals. Flamenco is of course a musical genus from Andalusia; the neighbourhood in Seville that gave this Spanish trio its name is generally considered to be the birthplace of flamenco. Triana, ‘the gitano barrio’, was home to a large population of Romani people who usually lived in communal homes, called corrales, which were organised around a patio. Many corrales have now disappeared due to housing pressure thus the patio is an important symbol of gitano culture and of the struggle between tradition and modernity. While Triana’s ‘El Patio’ has similar cultural significance it differs in that it features the harmonious synthesis of tradition and modernity, represented respectively by flamenco and progressive rock.

5 stars (I had to change 4* into 5 as soon as I became collaborator. This IS one of my favourites and sure it deserves the highest rate!) I have seen that most fans don’t rate Novella very high and I have always felt sad about it. It is somehow very introvert album and it calls for true dedication from the listener. I can understand that it may feel ‘boring’ to casual listener who expects more dynamic approach. But this is the most artistic of their albums.

The debut album “Storia di un minuto” has strong echoes from early King Crimson, especially the ‘feminine’ side.
