It shows a further departure from Ten New Songs, with more female lead singing and a marked increase in read poetry over sung lyrics, two of these being poems by other writers.

After the smashing success of Oracular Spectacular, it was clear that MGMT were going to be at a bit of a crossroads when it came time to follow up. Would they try to simply re-create their single-rich debut and pray that they avoided the sophomore slump, or would they continue to evolve? Fortunately for the listening public at large, they opted for the latter, delivering a follow-up album that matches, if not triumphs over, their earlier work.
Congratulations is an incredible follow-up from a band that is still maturing into some unknown entity.

Oracular Spectacular is a glamorous mega-production through and through. Drums are massively distorted and shimmering keyboards are articulately layered as he takes the reigns, leading the duo through his daisy chain of onboard compressors, delay units, and whatever other mysterious studio gizmos and gadgets he uses to get his trademark sound.
Enjoy, and happy X-mas to everybody !!!

Rated 4 out of 5 star by AllMusic Guide

Pianist George Shearing and singer Ernestine Anderson (who had teamed up briefly at the 1987 Fujitsu-Concord Jazz Festival) collaborated on this full-length Concord release. With strong assistance from bassist Neil Swainson and drummer Jeff Hamilton, Shearing and Anderson mostly stick to standards and their versions uplift the veteran songs. "Body and Soul" is taken as a vocal-piano duet, while "The Best Thing for You" is given an instrumental treatment. Other highlights include Anderson's vocals on "I'll Take Romance," a heartfelt "I Remember Clifford," "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and "Some Other Time." Perfect Match is an excellent outing for all concerned.

It has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making it one of only two albums released on Sub Pop to have received platinum certification.

Violinist Stephane Grappelli teamed up with the perfectly complementary Diz Disley Trio (featuring Disley and Ike Isaacs on guitar and bassist Isla Eckinger) for a spirited program of standards on this LP. Even if he has played some of these songs (such as "Shine" and "Ain't Misbehavin'") a countless numbers of times through the years, Grappelli never loses enthusiasm nor runs out of new variations. This LP will be hard to find but rewards anyone who can acquire a copy.
