Their importance and influence was especially great in Europe, where they influenced several generations of bands, and their influences can still be heard to this day in bands like Jaga Jazzist and beyond. Grides presents the most famous version of the band (Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper, Mike Ratledge, Robert Wyatt) recorded live at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on October 25, 1970, in a high-quality, previously unreleased recording, just a few months after the release of Third and at the peak of their popularity.

Essentially a vehicle for Hammond organ maestro Mick Weaver, late 60s British band Wynder K. Frog specialised in funky club Soul/Jazz. Hailing from Bolton, Lancashire, but based in London for much of their career, Mick and the band made three albums for Island Records between 1966 and 1970. These have long been coveted by Mod collectors and fans of the prestigious Island label. For the first time ever, all three LPs - Sunshine Super Frog (mono, 1966), Out Of The Frying Pan (stereo, 1968) and the US-only Into The Fire (stereo, 1970) - appear on one package, accompanied by a host of rare non-album tracks, previously unissued material, a track from a BBC radio session and two stereo mixes from the soundtrack to the 1968 film The Touchables…

Booker Ervin's recordings with Charles Mingus and Randy Weston brought him good reviews and a bit of notoriety, but it was his series of Song Books that broadcast the stentorian announcement that a jazz orator of gigantic stature had arrived. The Freedom Book, recorded at the end of 1963, is one of Ervin's masterpieces. His tenor saxophone sound is haunted by the loneliness and spaciousness of the Texas plains where he was raised. That Southwest moan is an integral part of his playing, but his style goes beyond the classic Texas tenor tradition, incorporating the intricacies of bebop and suggestions of free jazz that initiated one of the periods of self-renewal, keeping jazz fresh and interesting.

Economic Freedom and Welfare Before and After the Crisis

Economic Freedom and Welfare Before and After the Crisis By Petar Stankov
English | EPUB | 2017 | 179 Pages | ISBN : 3319624962 | 1.62 MB

This book offers an extensive review of market-oriented economic reforms since 1970, and considers the question of whether more liberal economic policy yields greater social welfare. The author demonstrates that, despite the widespread uniformity of economic policy across countries over the past 45 years, welfare differences persist. Stankov posits that the crisis has stalled the momentum of economic freedom reforms across the globe and policy agendas have gradually shifted from pro-market to pro-redistribution.
