World Turtle are an English progressive rock band formed by former Haze-members Chris and Paul McMahon after their earlier band's demise. While Haze were more traditionally prog, World Turtle's sound is somewhat more commercial; by using funk rhythms and horn-sections their music becomes reminiscent also of pop artists such as the late Genesis or Phil Collins' solo work. After Haze drummer Paul Chisnell left the group in 1988, the two remaining members, brothers Chris (bass, keyboards) and Paul McMahon (guitar, vocals) formed a first version of World Turtle with Pendragon-drummer Fudge Smith. This line-up, however, was short-lived. A new version of World Turtle appeared in 1991, with only the two brothers remaining. At live gigs and on their first album "Haze"…

Frogg Café are a Long Island quintet who started off as a Zappa cover band, named Lumpy Gravy. Their material is a strong slice of uniquely American prog, an innovative blend of Zappa featuring Mahavishnu-like violin, Chicago-style brass choirs and hints of Univers Zero. Their music alternates from light, airy piano and violin parts to darker, intense guitar passages, creating a dynamic contrast; the use of the trumpet also adds interesting tonal colours.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band Double Trouble formed the most impressive blues act of the 1980s, which made Vaughan's death in a helicopter crash at the start of the '90s all the more tragic. He grew up in Dallas, the younger brother of Jimmie Vaughan (cofounder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds). Stevie began playing in clubs at 12, and by 17 had dropped out of high school and moved to Austin. There followed years of struggling until April 23, 1982, when Vaughan and his group, Double Trouble, played a private audition for the Rolling Stones in New York. The gig led to an invitation to appear at the Montreux Jazz Festival, at which Vaughan was seen by David Bowie, who hired him to play guitar on his Let's Dance album, and Jackson Browne, who offered the free use of his recording studio. Vaughan took up that offer after being signed by legendary talent scout John Hammond to Epic, recording his debut album, Texas Flood, in the fall of 1982…

Born in late 2011, Human Factor is an exciting Russian group formed by talented and experienced musicians. Konstantin Shtirlitz and Alexander Meshcheryakov, respectively former drummer and bassist with mighty Infront, have joined forces with keyboardist and guitarists Sergei Volkov, principle composer and arranger for Kaftan Smeha, and guitarist Ivan Ivanov of Hagi Tragger. The band’s music is probably best described as modern instrumental rock with major space and progressive rock influences, strong melodic edge, and definite sense of adventure: tracks segue one into the other, atmospheres are established and broken, some rhythm patterns have progressive-like complexity, but the primary attention is given to strengthening a sense of enjoyable aural journey. This is an excellent, mature recordings which fans of good instrumental rock music.

Lunatic Soul is the solo project of Mariusz Duda, the lead singer and creative force behind the Polish band, Riverside. While far removed from Riverside's Progressive Metal it is not difficult to see comparisons and similarities to the parent band in the music contained on the eponymous debut album - not least of all because of Duda's distinctive clean vocals, the occasional guttural growl and, despite the lack of electric guitars, the pounding acoustic guitar riffs that appear on some of the tracks. However, this is not the lighter, unplugged side of Duda, it is a dark brooding mix of eclectic sounds with ethnic instruments and influences evoking eastern/oriental themes, psychedlic-era Pink Floyd-like rhythms, swirling and ethereal keyboards reminiscent of early Porcupine Tree tied together by songs that are surprisingly accessible and melodic.
